Do you provide Covid testing? If yes, what type of test, how quickly are results available, how are results reported, and cost for testing?

Yes, we provide the following COVID testing services here in our Poipu walk-in clinic:

  • Rapid antigen testing detecting “N” protein (results available in 15 minutes, $99)
  • Rapid RT-PCR testing (results available same day, $185)

Depending on staff availability, these tests may be available at your residence for an additional fee (see poipumd.com for pricing).

The type/timing of the test depends upon your purpose for testing. For example, for travel to Canada, you would need an RT-PCR Covid test. To travel to Tahiti, you would need a rapid antigen test. Some employers require RT-PCR, while others accept a rapid antigen test.

You are ultimately responsible for determining the type of test and timing, but if you let us know your purpose for testing we would be happy to assist with selecting the proper test. If you know what test you need, you can book an appointment online at poipumd.com or call us at (808) 652-7021.

Do you perform Covid testing for travel to Tahiti (French Polynesia)?

Yes, according to the Tahiti tourism website, our CareStart rapid antigen test meets the criteria for travel to Tahiti/French Polynesia. We perform a rapid antigen test that detects the “N” protein (nucleocapsid antigen) of the Sars-CoV-2 virus as required by French Polynesia.

Results are available in 10 minutes. Per the Tahiti website, the rapid antigen test must be performed less than 48 hours prior to departure.

That being said, the traveler is ultimately responsible for determining the type of test and timing. Requirements can change.

Thank you so much for your inquiry. You can book your “rapid antigen” test online at poipumd.com or call us at (808) 652-7021. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.

Do you perform Covid testing for travel to Canada?

Do you perform Covid antibody testing?

Yes. You can book this test online at poipumd.com for $100, but please call us at (808) 652-7021, as there are two types of antibody testing:

  • “spike protein” and “nucleocapsid (N) protein.”

Tell us why you want the test and can help you choose which one to order:

Spike protein antibody test: tells you if you have antibodies after being vaccinated OR if you have been exposed to or infected with the virus that causes Covid-19.

Nucleocapsid protein antibody test: tells you if you have been exposed to or infected with Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19. It will not tell you about vaccination status.

Once we determine which test you desire, we will order your test through Clinical Labs of Hawaii where you will go to have your blood drawn. We will email you your results, which are usually available within 48-72 hours. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.
